In memory of Judge Giovanni Falcone and his escort, today in Sassari, in Piazza d'Italia, one of the cars that exploded in the Capaci mafia massacre of 1992 was put on public display. The attack caused the deaths of the magistrate and his wife Francesca Morvillo, as well as the escort agents Vito Schifani, Rocco Dicillo and Antonio Montinaro.

Today's initiative, "From shed blood to donated blood", promoted by Donatorinati - State Police volunteers, was made possible by the collaboration with QuartoSavonaQuindici, the association that took its name from the radio signature tune of Falcone's escort.

"The mafia has not won," said Tina, Antonio Montinaro's widow. "We must not take steps back in the fight, too many people have died."

The highest city authorities were present in the square, from the mayor of Sassari Giuseppe Mascia to the police commissioner Filiberto Mastrapasqua, as well as some school children. The day also had the aim of raising awareness about blood donation.

Tina Montinaro finally recalled one of her husband's phrases in relation to his work. "He told me that if one day they decided to kill them I would have to pick it up with a teaspoon. And so it was."
