The “Day of Remembrance for Military and Civilian Fallen in International Peace Missions” was celebrated yesterday in Sassari , in Largo Paul Harris . A laurel wreath was laid, to the tune of silence played by a trumpeter of the “Sassari” Brigade Band , and to pay homage to the fallen, there was an honor guard from the 152nd “Sassari” Infantry Regiment and the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri .

An event , promoted by the Rotary Club Sassari Nord, the Rotary Club Sassari and the Rotary Club Sassari Silki, in which civil, military and ecclesiastical authorities took part .

The anniversary was established by law 12 November 2009 number 162, to celebrate the memory of those who lost their lives in the line of duty in various countries of the world during missions abroad. It is a date of great significance also because it commemorates the 21st anniversary of the Nassiriya massacre , the terrorist attack perpetrated in Iraq against the Italian contingent based on the “Sassari” Brigade during the “Antica Babilonia” operation, in which 5 Army soldiers, 12 Carabinieri, 2 compatriot civilians and 9 Iraqis lost their lives.
