A trial for simulating a crime and for illegal possession and transportation of weapons opened in the court of Sassari in recent days.

The defendant, a 40-year-old from Sassari, had reported to the State Police that his firearms had been stolen in 2023 by some Nigerians. They had entered the man's house demanding, under the threat of a knife, the guns as payment for some debts incurred.

Prosecutor Erica Angioni instead claims that the accused handed them over voluntarily far from his home to escape a dangerous situation.

The defendant, defended by the lawyer Valentina Porcu, underlines the fear he has towards non-EU citizens and the fear for his safety and that of his loved ones.

The panel, chaired by Giancosimo Mura, with Monia Adami and Sara Pelicci on his sides, postponed the hearing of the first witnesses until February.
