Visits, monitoring, and even rehabilitation and home care. Telemedicine applications are now imminent, thanks to the TELEMACO-S project, the driving force behind the e.Ins ecosystem, developed by the University of Sassari and funded by the PNRR with €10 million out of a total of €120 million, which also includes the other spokes.

This was discussed this morning in the Aula Magna of the University of Turin thanks to the round table entitled " Technology and Precision Medicine: New Paths for Healthcare in Sardinia ".

Developed in close collaboration with the Sassari University Hospital, with the involvement of several public (primarily the University of Cagliari) and private partners, the project is in its final stages. "We are at the very advanced stage of the planning process," said Gavino Casu, Director of the School of Specialization in Cardiovascular Diseases, who is leading the TELEMACO-S project.

There are already some devices available for monitoring patients (such as smartwatches), an app for collecting the transmitted data, and even an interpretation algorithm, which must be taught how to organize patient data. This will allow us to anticipate the onset of acute events in chronic patients by a few weeks, sometimes even a month.

Not only that, thanks to technology and special visors, the rehabilitation phase can be carried out by the patient directly at home, following the instructions of the avatar representing the specialist, usually the physiotherapist, who instead remains in the hospital.

The benefits are obvious, both for patients (in terms of health but also fewer trips to the hospital) and for the healthcare system in terms of cost savings and reduced crowding in facilities.

Finally, it should be emphasized, as did Francesco Milia, president of the e.INS Hub, that the "international auditors of the European Community" were also very impressed by the research development and the spending capacity of the funding.
