Sassari: Pensioner hit and killed by scooter; driver jailed for one year

Three years ago in Sassari, Giovanni Fiori, a pensioner from Sassari, lost his life after being struck by a scooter driven by a 35-year-old man while crossing the street on Corso Vico, near Via Gazometro. The 78-year-old, immediately admitted to hospital with critical condition, died shortly thereafter in the hospital on May 4, 2023, from his injuries.
Today in Sassari court, the investor was sentenced by preliminary hearing judge Gian Paolo Piana to one year and a provisional fine of €10,000. Prosecutor Paolo Piras, who was present at the hearing, had requested a sentence of one year and four months.
The civil parties were assisted by lawyers Roberto Cocciu and Letizia Doppiu-Anfossi, while the defendant's defense attorney was Marco Palmieri.
