Hospitalizations and scheduled operating room procedures have been temporarily suspended at the Santissima Annunziata Hospital and the University Clinics of Sassari.
The AOU general management made this decision today, forced to take action to continue to guarantee emergency care, given the now unsustainable overcrowding of the departments, the assault in recent days on the Emergency Room due to the arrival of the flu and the chronic staff shortage.
The decision was communicated late this morning to all department managers, confirming the critical issues denounced by the Fp Cgil and Cisl Fp unions at the Aou workers' meeting.
The general management explains the measure by listing the chronic problems of the departments: overcrowded patients in the wards, often placed in corridors, with inevitable repercussions on the quality and safety of care; the care burden disproportionate to available resources; and a care pressure that has reached such levels as to significantly compromise the functionality of the Emergency Room and inpatient wards.
The document instructs the directors of the various facilities to suspend and reschedule elective hospitalizations and operating room procedures to ensure emergency care. This is a temporary measure, it is explained, that may be reassessed based on the evolution of patient flows and bed occupancy.
