Over a thousand drug deals in just one week. This is what emerged from Operation Replay, which last Wednesday in Sassari led to the arrest of 16 people and the issuance of 45 notices of conclusion of investigations.

The investigation, coordinated by Deputy Prosecutors Giovanni Porcheddu and Giovanni Dore, and conducted by the Carabinieri from 2023 to 2025, allegedly highlighted the responsibilities of five suspects, including two couples, believed to be the most active in the cocaine and heroin trade. Some non-EU citizens, who came under scrutiny by the Public Prosecutor's Office, were later reportedly found to be remarkably diligent in administering the doses, so much so that, according to the prosecution, they made around a thousand deliveries in a short period of time.

Meanwhile, during questioning between Friday and Saturday before investigating judge Gian Paolo Piana, the suspects provided differing answers. While most remained silent, the others either deflected or denied responsibility, or claimed to have sold drugs to afford to have access to them for personal use.

The criminal group identified by the prosecutor's office, which also includes individuals arrested in May 2025 during Operation Viking, is charged with joint possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking. Made up entirely of Nigerians, there are reportedly few "foreigners" from Sassari, and they play secondary roles. The judge's decision on whether to confirm their pre-trial detention is expected in the coming days.
