Giuseppe Mascia, mayor of Sassari, received applause and cheers yesterday as he left the City Hall. No boos followed the mayor's third Faradda , which, once again, was not affected by the protests that had befallen his predecessors.

As is well known, there's a long tradition of mayors being affected by popular discontent when, after the "twenty-year toast" at City Hall, they leave to make their way to the Church of Santa Maria di Betlem for the dissolution of the Vote. At that moment, boos often erupt, but this time, that didn't happen.

An accident instead occurred for Desiré Manca , the regional councillor for Labour, present during the Discesa dei Candelieri on Corso Vittorio Emanuele II. Manca, in the large crush that always accompanies the Faradda, received a blow on the cheek from the shaft of one of the candles and was then rescued by 118. Fortunately, nothing serious.

A Carabiniere, however, fell ill in the church square during the prayer to the Virgin of the Assumption, led by the Bishop of Sassari, Francesco Antonio Soddu, and the guardian, Father Salvatore Sanna. The Carabiniere, aided by the intense heat, lost consciousness and fell to the ground. Paramedics arrived immediately, but the woman quickly recovered, receiving applause from those present, relieved by the positive outcome .

The vote was dissolved around 1:30 a.m., renewing the tribute to the Madonna and the request that she protect Sassari.
