Rationalize spaces, separating teaching from offices, and improve energy efficiency. These are the lines followed in the profound restoration intervention that concerns the building on Via Roma of the former Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures and the historic Palazzo Ciancilla. Yesterday the Rector of the University of Sassari, Gavino Mariotti, inaugurated the new classrooms of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (DUMAS) on Via Roma.

"The presence and dignity of the space is a symptom of civilization, culture and attention towards students," Mariotti said.

The result of the restyling combines the functionality of the interiors and the preservation of the original appearance of the external structure, creating a harmonious and welcoming whole, even more liveable for the student community: the symbol of this new interconnection is the walkway that connects the two buildings, in addition to the garden in front of the completely renovated department.

The new classroom “Giulia Pissarello A” and “B” (former principal who passed away during Covid) stands out, which can be combined into a single large space with 310 seats if necessary, accessible, like the other classrooms, to people with motor disabilities and equipped with multimedia equipment for video projections and distance learning .

The ceremony opened with the blessing of the entrance to the Palazzo di Lingue by Archbishop Mons. Gianfranco Saba, then the Rector and the director of DUMAS, Lucia Cardone, cut the ribbon. Also speaking were the Mayor of Sassari Giuseppe Mascia, the director Lucia Cardone, the Vice-Rector for Teaching Pietro Pulina, the representative of the students of the department, Francesco Fumu, the director of the Procurement and Construction Area of the University Simone Loddo, the architect Giulio Felli of the design company CSPE of Florence.
