The NAS (National Security and Safety Agency) in Sassari is investigating dental tourism on the island. Military inspections have intensified on promotional events organized in Sardinia by dental practices based abroad. These advertise free visits and "all-inclusive" packages for treatments outside of Italy.

The purpose of the NAS inspections is to ensure that these meetings do not involve actual dental examinations by individuals without the necessary qualifications to practice in Italy. They also ensure that licensed professionals operate in compliance with current regulations, including those regarding licensing of premises and proper health information provision.

The Carabinieri Anti-Adulteration and Healthcare Unit's objectives include ensuring that all medical procedures throughout the country are performed by qualified personnel in authorized facilities.

The specialized unit therefore works to prevent the promise of savings from concealing allegations of unauthorized practice and, consequently, risks to the health of citizens. If criminal or administrative liability is identified, these will be forwarded to the competent authorities.
