A permanent scar on his face. Since late 2024, a 30-year-old Italian man, detained in Bancali, has had an 11-cm scar on his face.
A lifelong scar, the result of an apparently unprovoked attack by another inmate, a 20-year-old non-EU citizen, during exercise time. The injury was caused by a razor blade used for shaving, which is only allowed in the cell.
That day, however, the young man pressed it against the other man's face, opening a gash that would require over 20 stitches to close.
All this to the general disbelief of the other inmates, who were themselves surprised by the act. Today in court in Sassari, preliminary hearing judge Gian Paolo Piana ordered the indictment of the non-EU citizen accused of grievous bodily harm. The defendant's defense attorney is Andrea Piroddi.
