One step away from filing a complaint with the Public Prosecutor's Office. The Agricultural Studies Center is raising the tone of its complaint regarding the situation at Lake Cuga , in the Nurra region. According to data collected by ENAS on June 26, the CSA states in a press release, the water availability has reached just over 3.7 million cubic meters .

"We are facing a very serious situation," declared Tore Piana, president of the Agricultural Studies Center, and vice president Stefano Ruggiu. "The Cuga has now been reduced to a bare minimum, with devastating consequences not only for thousands of farms, but also for the entire ecosystem of the basin."

The Sardinian farmers' association is addressing the concerns of its members and questioning what is happening. "We wonder," Piana and Ruggiu continue, "why the Temo floodgates aren't being opened to allow the Cuga to fill. Are there technical problems? Are there faults with the systems or floodgates? If so, why isn't anyone informing the farmers?" The Center also warns that "even if the decision were finally made to fill the reservoir, the now extremely low level could cause large quantities of sludge and sediment to rise, with the real risk of clogging irrigation pipes and causing further harm to farmers."

The association demands: the opening of the Temo floodgates, if technically possible; urgent reporting from the Region, ENAS, and the Land Reclamation Consortium on the actual situation of the Nurra water system; and an extraordinary plan to safeguard irrigation and the environmental balance of the Cuga basin. "If concrete measures are not adopted by next Friday and clear answers are not provided to farmers," conclude Tore Piana and Stefano Ruggiu, "the Agricultural Studies Center is ready to file a complaint with the Public Prosecutor's Office to determine any responsibility in the management of a predicted crisis that threatens to bring Nurra agriculture to its knees."
