In December 2017, the decisive step seemed to have been taken to transfer the complex located between via Duca degli Abruzzi and via Fermi, in a new municipal area of one and a half hectares, in Casaggia, in the area that connects Latte Dolce and Sant'Orsola, along viale Porto Torres. The then mayor of Sassari, Nicola Sanna, had also signed an agreement with the provincial commander of the Fire Brigade Franco Mario Falbo for the free loan of the municipal land.
In order to build the barracks, the agreement provided for funding entirely to be borne by the "national public works" for an amount of approximately 20 million euros.
The municipal councilor Mariolino Andrìa addressed an interpellation to the current mayor Nanni Campus, also in his capacity as president of the Metropolitan Network, "so that the municipal council and the city are informed about the process of this conventional agreement, provided that the same is not been neglected and is still in place ".
The new destination would be more functional than the current one to allow the approximately 600 firefighters, including helicopters, dockers and divers, who cover the provincial territory, to "exercise their indispensable and valuable activity in a modern functional and logistically more suitable barracks" .
