Concrete trap. It is the skyscraper in via Leoncavallo in Sassari, in the Santa Maria district of Pisa, where 42 families live together with 2 broken elevators and the third one which works in fits and starts.
"It stops only on some floors - the residents report - and often freezes". So it happens that many elderly people of the building, belonging to the Area, can only watch the world from the window of their own home. "For a month - says Salvatore, 84 years old - I've been under house arrest".
And even for those suffering from various pathologies, the situation is gray. «I have heart disease and I have a little box in my heart - declares Ilenia - my daughter as well. We live in fear of staying down because we won't be able to climb the stairs." «My daughter is in a wheelchair - says Angela, who lives on the ninth floor - often has seizures. If the ambulance comes, without a lift they won't get on us."
Then there are extreme cases, like the one yesterday, when a pregnant girl broke her water and had to go down on foot . "We don't know who to turn to - says Franca - here the dispute is between Area, the administrator, the lift operators and us, the tenants, who pay the rent and would like to see something".
Starting with the budgets which, Franca continues, have been missing for 4 years . Then the finger is pointed at the fire-fighting system that would never have been tested, the falling rubble or the aseptic tank from which the rats come out. «Now we're interested in elevators - says a 78-year-old - I don't go out anymore. They have to do my shopping." Everyone's appeal is addressed to the Regional Agency for Qualifying Construction: "Do something, we are abandoned".
