In Sassari, fines are increasing against those who unlawfully use parking spaces for people with disabilities. 1,104 fines were issued in the first ten months of 2026, 823 in 2025, and 230 in the first six months of 2026.

These figures reflect the increased controls by the local police, which operated throughout the municipality, but also, at times, a lack of civic sense on the part of some citizens.

Discovered by officers operating both in plainclothes and uniform, such as, to give just a few examples, the mechanic who used the space reserved for disabled people to park a car being repaired in his workshop due to "logistical requirements of the business: the car being repaired, in fact, would otherwise have obstructed the entrance and exit maneuvers from the shop."

Again, the pizza delivery man who occupied the stall waiting for the next delivery, or the person occupying the reserved area for loading materials and equipment. There were also several cases of photocopied or counterfeit permits, such as an elderly person who used the permit of a friend who died two years ago, or an uncle who used that of his severely disabled niece, without her knowledge.

The Local Police also focused on those parking at pedestrian crossings, on sidewalks, or in front of slopes. 810 fines have been issued so far for parking at pedestrian crossings (1,028 in 2025), while 1,340 fines have been issued for parking on the sidewalk, 610 in June 2026, and 1,361 in all of 2025.
