A veritable illegal tent city, overlooking the sea and immersed in the Mediterranean scrub, was dismantled in recent days by local police officers.

The intervention, triggered by a report from some residents of the area between Argentiera and Porto Palmas, led to the identification of several campers - all foreigners - who had occupied some prohibited areas along the cliffs and ridges with vehicles and equipment .

Once they arrived on site, officers from the Via Carlo Felice Command found dozens of campers parked illegally.

Some moved away at the sight of the patrol, but four of them were clearly camping: stabilized with feet, surrounded by tables, umbrellas, chairs, deckchairs and tents, in areas where parking is expressly prohibited.

The campers were fined a total of €4,000. The fines were paid immediately via POS terminal, without objection, a sign that the offenders were aware of their violation.

According to reports from residents and confirmed by officials, some vehicles were illegally discharging wastewater in unequipped areas and, in some cases, drawing water from the fountains in the nearby cemetery. Authorities took the opportunity to remind users of the rules for proper use of campers and, above all, the importance of environmental protection.
