Sassari comes to the rescue of dogs and cats. The food drive for four-legged friends, promoted by the AEOPC Animal Protection Officers, was a resounding success. The initiative, which began on December 12th, concluded yesterday.

Dozens of people have donated food, toys, beds, harnesses, blankets, and much more to the animals living in kennels, shelters, cat colonies, and local associations. Among the benefactors are even minors, like Francesco, who, accompanied by his mother, Alessandra, contributed his savings, demonstrating that love for dogs and cats is ageless. "Thank you for what you do," the young man told the officers.

The collection benefited from the crucial support of the Municipality's Environment Department and Councilor and Deputy Mayor Pierluigi Salis, who granted authorization and offered the necessary support. The initiative was conceived by Captain Manuel Chessa. "This collection," he stated, "is not a point of arrival, but the beginning of a journey. My role was to bring together a team, determination, and passion; together with my colleagues, we will continue to propose new initiatives to benefit animals and the local area."

And there were over 320 interventions carried out by the Animal Protection Guards during 2025, always in support of animals and dealing with complex situations such as the recent rescue of the dog Napoleone, who had been caring for his dead owner in the hamlet of Ottava for days.

The team also includes, in addition to Major Maurizio Cau, officers Sandra Mura, Loredana Pilo, Silvia Piretta, Fabio Ortu, Maryam Carassino, and Patrizia Pintus.
