Heroin in his underwear and fake braids to hide it. State police arrested a 48-year-old man from Alghero yesterday in Sassari on charges of drug possession with intent to sell. Officers spotted him driving around Predda Niedda wearing a dreadlocked hat.

At the sight of a Carabinieri patrol, the man drove around a roundabout twice, arousing the suspicions of the plainclothes police officers, who chased him for several kilometers, stopping him near Conforama with the help of a patrol car. The man appeared to be quite nervous, and the officers, having verified that he had a drug conviction, searched him. They found three heat-sealed sachets hidden in his underwear, weighing approximately 30 grams, containing heroin.

The searches continued at the man's Alghero home, where two scales and more heroin were discovered. The 48-year-old, represented by attorney Elisabetta Udassi, was brought to court in Sassari this morning for a summary hearing. Judge Valentina Nuvoli ordered the man's arrest to be confirmed and placed under house arrest.
