Sassari: Dangers for pedestrians and motorists on Via Cilea

A constant danger in Sassari. The long stretch of Via Cilea, connecting the city to the suburbs of Latte Dolce and Santa Maria di Pisa, continues to pose a risk to pedestrians and motorists. Sadly, there have been tragic precedents: in 2024, the death of Rita Sechi, a 76-year-old woman struck by a car just after leaving the church of Santa Maria Bambina, and the previous year, the death of Antonio Manca at the intersection with Via Leoncavallo while riding a scooter.
Every day, however, the possibility of another tragedy arises, like last weekend, when a woman nearly got hit. The neighborhood committee reports "the lack of horizontal and vertical signage at the roundabout and along the stretch of Via Cilea." And the poor visibility at the critical point of the pedestrian crossing leading to the place of worship.
"We urgently call," the Committee states, "for the redevelopment and safety of that entire stretch. We know it's planned, but we need to act now, before another death occurs."
Meanwhile, a week ago, the city council approved a €36,000 technical and economic feasibility study aimed at improving traffic flow between Via Cilea, Via Lago di Baratz, Via Leoncavallo, and Via Solari, with a future €1.1 million investment. This project is designed to address the expected increase in traffic, already heavy, when the area hosts one of Sassari's main sports centers.
