A huge crowd gathered in Sassari for the 28th annual Discesa dei Piccoli Candelieri (Descent of the Little Candlesticks). Three hundred children, divided into 21 mini-guilds, marched for hours last night from Porta Sant'Antonio to Corso Vico and the Church of Santa Maria di Betlem.
A significant number of girls attended, the youngest of whom, a member of the Autoferrotranvieri (Traffic and Tramway) organization, is four years old. The youngest participants, meanwhile, were three years old. As in the Faradda on August 14th, the children saluted the Virgin of the Assumption at the end of the route, then received medals and ice cream from the mayor, Giuseppe Mascia, and the president of the Intergremio, Fabio Madau.
The event concluded at 10:00 PM, after the Ave Maria recited by Father Guardian Salvatore Sanna. This was followed by a group dance and a reminder to the next meeting on August 14th.
