80 vehicles will be abandoned in Sassari in 2025. This figure was provided by the local police, who announced some changes in this regard, coming from Law 14/2026, which came into effect on February 20. "The new law," the Local Police Headquarters explains, "allows for the overcoming of any existing administrative seizures and mandates the public body to certify the unusability of the found or unclaimed vehicle, communicating this to the owner within 7 days via certified email or other suitable means. The owner has 60 days to object, and if no objection is received, the body will proceed with its removal, demolition, and cancellation from the PRA (Public Vehicle Registry)."

The purpose of the new legislation is to simplify the process of dealing with abandoned vehicles and, thus, clear streets and parking lots of cars in this condition. The law changes the rules governing end-of-life vehicles subject to administrative seizure (the measure that seizes movable property such as motor vehicles to collect unpaid debts, such as taxes or traffic fines).

The reform therefore removes the seizure as an obstacle to deregistration from the PRA, introducing new procedures for certifying the vehicle's inoperability and redefining the responsibilities and timeframes of local authorities.
