An inmate threatens and hits officers at Bancali prison and spits at them. Another critical night at the prison is reported by ConSiPe national secretary Roberto Melis.

The man, already known for his aggressive behavior, "extracted a metal fragment from the structure of the Security Room where he was temporarily located and hit a police officer through the bars, threatening to cut the face of anyone who approached."

Added to this were "spitting, insults, and extremely violent physical resistance during containment operations." The officers eventually managed to subdue him, but, Melis continues, "he sustained injuries that required immediate medical attention and days of recovery." "Subsequently, the clearing of the room led to the discovery of additional metal objects detached from the sink, a clear sign of a structural condition that does not guarantee the minimum safety necessary for the management of particularly dangerous individuals."

The inmate later admitted to abusing drugs, thus worsening the situation . "This situation is intolerable," the secretary concluded. "Bancali prison is now a powder keg, and the staff can no longer be abandoned in these unacceptable conditions. Every day, officers risk their lives in a context that guarantees neither security nor adequate equipment."
