As soon as the sentence was pronounced, the man began to cry. It happened yesterday, in the Assize Courtroom of the Sassari courthouse, when a fifty-year-old man was acquitted because the crime was not proven by Judge Valentina Nuvoli. The man's reaction was tears, easing the tension of a trial stemming from a serious charge: that of showing a pornographic video to a 10-year-old girl. According to the charges, the incident dated back to 2021 and allegedly occurred in the Sassari neighborhood of Monte Rosello Alto. That is, when the defendant, originally from Porto Torres, allegedly showed the sexually explicit images to the minor, the daughter of a neighbor.
Prosecutor Giovanni Dore, in the case, found the child credible, but urged the accused's acquittal with a doubtful plea. While the civil party's lawyer, Gaetano Paoletti, had focused on the psychological consequences of what had happened for the child, the defendant's defense attorneys, Camilla Pirino and Nicola Andrea Oggiano, argued that, in their view, their client was completely innocent. They also cited the complex relationship between the minor's separated parents and the strained family climate. Ultimately, the judge fully acquitted the fifty-year-old.
