Thirty-five years old, Italian, with no criminal record. And armed with a screwdriver. Yesterday on Via Roma in Sassari, around midnight, a man had been wandering along the street for several minutes, clutching the tool.

His presence had raised alarm among passersby, and someone alerted the Carabinieri. At a certain point, the person approached a group of three girls walking between Via Roma and Via Asproni and pointed the screwdriver at them, brandishing it in an attempt to threaten them and obtain a purse.

But they immediately reacted by shouting and attracting the attention of the Carabinieri, who were already in the vicinity following the previous report.

The man was stopped and arrested by the Carabinieri on charges of attempted robbery aggravated by the use of a weapon. The 35-year-old, represented by Barbara Pirisi, was taken to the Bancali prison and will appear at a validation hearing tomorrow before investigating judge Giuseppe Grotteria.
