A public menace with tusks. Wild boars in Sassari are becoming part of the landscape, roaming in packs, but in the Rizzeddu neighborhood, they're experiencing the anomaly of being reduced to a single individual, stalking Via Rockefeller and surrounding areas like a ghost. "We've received dozens of reports," says Giovanni Coroforo, president of the neighborhood committee. "Its presence is very dangerous, especially because it crosses the road, risking a car crashing into it sooner or later."

Rockefeller Street is one of the busiest streets in the city, often at high speeds, and the risk of a collision is very real. For those out at night, the mammal often appears on the other side of the glass front door, standing still and waiting.

"He was in front of the building," one person said, "maybe he wanted to get in." "Most of the time," residents report, "he rummages through the bins and spills everything on the ground. The poor sanitation worker has to clean up every time." These "scrutinies" are actually daily, always in the dark, because the wild boar has chosen the area as its preferred habitat. A few weeks ago, a resident fired a shotgun blast, allegedly in the air, to scare it away and prevent it from attacking the "hunter's" dog. However, the boar remained unperturbed, and, as several videos in circulation attest, the screams of humans trying to scare it leave it unmoved.
