Another break-in in Sassari , but this time no money was stolen. "They took 5,000 euros worth of merchandise ," say Sebastiano and Alessandra, managers of the butcher shop on the corner of Viale Caprera and Viale Trento. The incident occurred Sunday night. "And when we arrived Monday, we found the shutter broken along with the glass in the entrance." "They took cheese, beef, and pancetta," Sebastiano recalls, "putting us in great difficulty." The theft was certainly carried out by multiple people, as they managed to break the electric shutter and lift it.
The Carabinieri are investigating the incident, searching for evidence that could identify the perpetrators of the break-in. "No one saw anything, and there's no surveillance camera anywhere," says Alessandra, who, along with her husband Sebastiano, has run the business on Viale Caprera for three years, after previously operating on Via Tempio.
Break-ins have been rampant in the city in recent months, and are now targeting trendy neighborhoods, extending from the historic center to other neighborhoods. Recent thefts on Viale Trieste and Viale Umberto are a prime example. But similar incidents, including car thefts and vandalism, have also occurred on Viale Caprera. "They stole ours, too, in broad daylight," the couple states. They conclude: "We need more enforcement."
