Eighty kilos of copper were stolen from the Superintendency headquarters in Sassari . Electrical cables were removed, gutters were torn off and crumpled, all to the detriment of a protected public building of historical and cultural interest.

Police arrested two men for theft after catching them red-handed . The operation was the result of intensified patrols by the Flying Squad, following a string of thefts of gutters and copper materials from several public buildings in the city.

The officers intervened after a report to 112 of two suspicious men who were loitering near the headquarters of the Superintendency, in Via Monte Grappa.

The police quickly tracked them down: they were carrying 80 kilos of "red gold" in two bags and a stroller . They were immediately arrested, and the arrest was validated by the judicial authorities.
