750 kg of waste was collected in Sassari's former rural colony. Fifty Plastic Free volunteers recently conducted an environmental cleanup, promoted by the "Cappuccini" Neighborhood Committee and its president, Uccio Virdis, with the support of Plastic Free representatives Maria Grazia Pisanu, Roberto Manca, and Serena Solinas, assisted by Plastic Free representatives for Sassari, Fabrizio and Riccardo Caggiari. This collaborative effort, including that of the Monte Rosello Committee, and its president, Gionmaria Chelo, allowed the area to be "cleared" of a massive mass of abandoned materials.
Specifically, the volunteers removed approximately thirty bags of unsorted waste, four tires, two car batteries, two wooden pieces of furniture, a door, various ferrous materials, four large bags of glass bottles, and a bag of cigarette butts. "When citizens, associations, and institutions choose to collaborate, the results are immediately visible," remarked Plastic Free representatives Maria Grazia Pisanu, Roberto Manca, and Serena Solinas. "We didn't just collect waste: we restored attention and dignity to a place that belongs to the entire community and laid the foundation for involving more and more neighborhoods in future initiatives." Thanks also go to Deputy Mayor and Councilor for the Environment Pier Luigi Salis, Giovanni Pisoni, head of the environmental sector, and City Councilor Annapaola Rubattu, as well as the associations, neighborhood committees, and all the citizens who chose to dedicate part of their time to caring for the area.
