After 25 years of precarious employment it's time to say enough. 15 workers from the Porto Conte geo-mining park in Alghero - Area 4 - are asking the new regional government for stabilization which, for now, is a dream.

«We continue - they report - to extend our contract for a few months. The next one will expire in June." And then again the wait for an unnamed future, Naspi or the fear of dismissal. All this despite the fact that the Region itself, in 2016, approved law 34 which was supposed to give workers a permanent job. But this did not happen.

«Instead things are getting worse - they continue - we have switched to subcontracting. This is an infinite way of the cross for us, in which we are defrauded of our clothes. And cooperatives are playing a role in our future."

Now they are asking for a meeting with the new regional councilor for Labor Desirè Manca: «But not by videoconference. We ask that, in addition to the unions, one of our delegations also be present so as to explain our problems."

Which concern 240 people throughout Sardinia, due to the type of work, struggling with ever-increasing expenses while their income drops . «They took away our meal vouchers and petrol expenses. But we all come from the villages and we have to travel 120 km by car." A borderline situation that prevents workers, mostly over 50s and 60s, from being able to plan for tomorrow, given that their paychecks and short-term contracts do not allow them to receive any type of financing from banks or even to buy household appliances in installments.
