The emergency medical transport of a two-year-old girl who, due to a serious illness, required immediate transfer from the Sassari Civil Hospital to the Agostino Gemelli University Hospital in Rome concluded on Monday afternoon.
The lifesaving air mission was carried out by a crew from the 46th Air Brigade in Pisa, using a C-130J aircraft. This special configuration of the Italian Air Force allows for the direct loading of a medical vehicle into the cargo hold, a fundamental technical requirement to ensure continuity of medical care and the fastest possible transfer of the young patient.
The emergency flight was activated at the request of the Sassari Prefecture, which determined the girl's life was in imminent danger. The C-130J took off from the Pisa base and arrived at Alghero airport.
The ambulance was loaded at the Sardinian airport, where the little girl was cared for by a specialized medical team and her family. The aircraft then landed at Rome Ciampino Airport, from where the ambulance continued its journey to the capital's hospital. After completing the rescue mission, the C-130J returned to its Tuscan base to resume normal operational readiness.
