Twelve kilos of contraband tobacco were seized in recent days in the historic center of Sassari.

The operation in the San Donato area was carried out by local police, who discovered a business where 12 kilos of counterfeit tobacco were stored in one-kilogram packages. The fine will be €60,000, although an investigation into possible criminal implications continues.
The operation began when several officers noticed a young man who, upon seeing them, quickly walked away. Suspicious, they followed him, caught up with him, and stopped him. He was hiding a block of counterfeit tobacco in a package weighing approximately one kilo, which the young man handed over with some difficulty. From that moment, an investigative operation was launched, leading to the discovery of the business and the contraband. These, the Locale warns, cause economic damage and can be harmful and toxic to health because they lack the controls applied to legal products. They often contain poisonous substances, and the origin of the products, as well as their manufacturing, is untraceable.
