It is one of the green lungs of Muravera but has been suffering from a worrying phenomenon of desiccation for some time. The forest complex of Baccu Arrodas is experiencing the same nightmare that is affecting vast wooded areas of Sarrabus . The situation, aggravated by waves of extreme heat and prolonged drought, was the focus of a meeting organized in the Municipality of Muravera and attended by mayors and administrators of the Municipality, Castiadas, San Vito, Villaputzu, Burcei and Sinnai. Together with them were also representatives of the Regional Department of the Environment, Agris, Arpas, Forestas, Laore, University of Sassari and the Forestry Corps, who examined the situation of the territory. In addition to Baccu Arrodas, Gutturu Frascu and Masone Murtas in Castiadas and Baccu Locci in Villaputzu are under observation.

The dying forests , as stated in a note from the Municipality, make it " urgent to take targeted action to preserve a natural heritage of inestimable value . According to experts, the drying up of tall trees is closely linked to the water deficit of recent years, which culminated in the summer of 2024, with temperature peaks of up to 47 degrees and rainfall reduced to a minimum. The phenomenon, which makes plants more vulnerable to parasite attacks, risks causing irreversible damage to the local ecosystem".

"In Muravera we are very concerned about what is happening in Baccu Arrodas - said the mayor, Salvatore Piu - This emergency does not only concern our territory, but the entire Sarrabus. Rapid and coordinated actions are needed to prevent this environmental crisis from turning into an irreversible catastrophe". The municipal administration, in collaboration with the Forestry Corps and the Forestas agency, is carefully following the monitoring of the affected area started by the task force set up by the Region. "We are in constant contact with the Region, Agris, Arpas, Forestas, Laore, the University of Sassari and the Forestry Corps", adds Fabio Piras, municipal councilor for the Environment. The resources allocated by the Region for the emergency, which involves the whole of Sardinia, amount to over 1 million euros , which will allow for the start of advanced monitoring and the definition of intervention strategies.
Among the measures planned, the strengthening of the monitoring network through advanced technologies, such as drones equipped with multispectral sensors, which will allow the analysis of the health of plants and identification of the most affected areas. The Sardinia Region has already allocated 400 thousand euros to strengthen monitoring. "Every decision - concludes Piras - will be guided by the results of the analyses and by the collaboration between institutions, because safeguarding our forests means protecting the future of our territory".
