Sardinian hunters are certainly not indifferent to protecting the environment and wildlife. On the contrary, they know the area, frequent it, and guard it year-round. This season, as in previous years, many hunters have donated their time and resources to the firefighting campaign, making a tangible contribution to protecting the area and promptly reporting any fires. So we'd like to ask a question, perhaps an uncomfortable one, but one we must ask those who are now calling for a hunting ban in the name of wildlife protection: how many of those making these appeals have spent their summer days actively guarding the area, freely providing men and resources to prevent and report fires, as so many hunters do every year?

This is according to the Hunting, Fishing and Traditions Association of Sardinia, following the positions taken by animal rights groups regarding the hunting season on the island.

"Protecting wildlife isn't just about calling for bans and suspensions. It also means knowing the territory, living in it, protecting it, and making a concrete contribution to its preservation. If there are truly critical situations for certain species, we are the first to ask that they be assessed and addressed seriously. But we need data, monitoring, and proportionate measures, not generalizations," continues Caccia Pesca e Tradizioni Sardegna.

The hunting community is ready, as always, to do its part. However, we ask that the concrete contribution hunters make to protecting Sardinian territory also be recognized, not just when they are pointed out as a problem. Before calling for an end to those who live and protect the territory, perhaps it would be appropriate to ask ourselves who, in actual fact, is truly protecting that territory," the association concludes.
