Sardinian economy stronger than the pandemic. The numbers say it: after the decline of the black period of Covid, the total number of workers and the amount of income have started to grow again (and much, exceeding the numbers of 2014). Artisans and traders are considerably reduced, while employees (public and private) and farmers, both workers and owners of their own businesses, increase.
The complete report is in the tables of the Observatory on workers (employees and non-employees), of the INPS, which has just been published.
In 2014, the earliest year for which data are reported, in Sardinia there were 614,003 payrolls, for a total of 25,609,808 weeks worked. With a total income of 11,004,681,352. There was a collapse in 2016 (workers had gone from over 629 thousand in the previous year to 619 thousand), then the constant progression, with the overrun of 631 thousand payrolls in 2019. But the virus arrived, to upset the system. In 2020 here are the numbers: 626,847 payrolls, 25,076,411 weeks worked and 11,587,126,507 income produced on the island.
After lockdowns and closures, a devastating setback was feared. Instead, there wasn't. The consolidated report for 2021 speaks of 633,543 at work, and incomes of 12,235,800,498: the highest numbers of the entire monitored period.
But what are the Sardinians engaged in? In 2014 there were 43,208 artisans. In 2021 they were reduced to 38,612. The same important decline for traders: they were 54,934, they have become 51,307.
Over half of the total number of workers, 327,866, are private employees, who have grown enormously compared to 285,034 in 2014. In the sector, payrolls had dropped to 313,000 in 2020: 10,000 fewer than the previous year, when Covid was not known what was it. There were 21,938 farmers eight years ago, they have increased to 23,229.
