They are the silent, weary angels of a family member in need of constant care because they are ill, elderly, or disabled. Spouses, children, parents, siblings, or sisters who work tirelessly every day, often sacrificing their jobs, financial independence, and social network. And, always, their health and mental well-being. They are family caregivers, those who live with Alzheimer's patients, elderly parents, the disabled, the bedridden, and psychiatric patients. Two hundred thousand in Sardinia alone and eight million in Italy, a weary army plugging the enormous gaps in a struggling welfare system lacking any concrete recognition, social security, or insurance coverage.

An army that has gone unheeded, given that the regional law recognizing and supporting family caregivers has been sitting like a dead letter in the drawers of the Presidency of the Regional Council, the Department of Health, and the Health and Social Policies Committee for two years now . Approved on November 6, 2023, it has never been implemented: no guidelines and no funding.
