Sardinia loses half of the water it manages to store through the reservoir system , losses which are widespread in all territories but which are concentrated in particular in 35 Municipalities , the four provincial capitals and many localities along the coast.

The data were recalled by the president of Egas , Fabio Albieri , during the presentation of the conference on climate change and the repercussions on Sardinian water resources scheduled for May 26 in Cagliari.

The water system in Sardinia holds up - Albieri explained - thanks to the weather which in recent years has been more clement than the rest of Italy. The system of reservoirs that has been built over the years is substantially efficient and it has rained enough, we can look to the immediate future with confidence, but water dispersion is an important phenomenon that seriously affects Sardinia».

According to Arera data , the island exceeds 50% of dispersion from networks and aqueducts, with 35 municipalities at the top of the ranking involving 50% of the Sardinian population and 70% of total losses.

«Coastal and tourist municipalities such as Villasimius and San Teodoro, just to mention particularly critical situations, are close to 70% losses», underlines the president of the Sardinian government body and mayor of Calangianus.

The funds of the Pnrr come to help, around 50 million: added to resources from the Development and Cohesion Fund and other funding, around 150 million are available to "plug the leaks" and reorganize the 346 networks managed by Abbanoa.

"We are intervening with surgical and targeted projects in those networks that present the most critical issues - specifies the general manager Maurizio Meloni - the goal is to bring the losses back to acceptable levels below 30%".

Egas on the island has over 11,000 kilometers of pipelines, of which 7,000 for networks and 4,500 for aqueducts.
