In Sardinia, there is an alarm over child and adolescent abuse. In the last five years, cases have increased by 58%, a worrying growth that confirms the emergency dimension of the phenomenon. The most frequent form is neglect, which affects 37% of minors, followed by witnessed violence (34%). Psychological violence represents 12% of cases, while physical abuse concerns 11%.
The data were released by the Regional Guarantor for Childhood and Adolescence Carla Puligheddu after the publication of the III National Survey by Terre des Hommes and Cismai.
"This is now a real emergency - said Guarantor Puligheddu - the data that is once again striking is that 87% of abuse occurs within the family . Institutions must do something . We cannot passively witness this radical change in our society in which the "domestic hearth" often turns into a nightmare for the little ones".
"It is therefore increasingly urgent - continues the Guarantor - to establish in Sardinia the Regional Observatory on Childhood and Adolescence , a fundamental tool for providing effective responses and implementing actions to prevent and combat violence against boys and girls and to provide for a strengthening of the social, health, educational and protection of minors' rights and family support systems".
