Sardinia is among the most developed regions in Italy. But this is not good news. Because the assessment of the alleged widespread socioeconomic well-being is made only for the purpose of allocating funds to municipalities for energy efficiency: a game of 232 million euros, with 80% of the resources destined for the less developed regions and 20% of the resources for the more developed ones. In short, those who are better off get less money. And the joke, for Sardinia, has been served.

The Democratic Party MP, Silvio Lai, is convinced of this and has presented a question: the criteria were decided by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security.

«After the slide on the history of Italy, with the Ventotene manifesto, now the Meloni government is also collapsing on geography and economics: it must have happened overnight», jokes the Democratic Party representative, «Sardinia with Lombardy and Bavaria, according to Mase, is among the most developed European regions and we hadn't noticed».

"It is not just a nominal issue", continues Lai, "if Sardinia (together with Molise and Abruzzo) were among the least developed regions, to which 80% of the overall budget is attributed, the Island could participate with 8% of the inhabitants out of 190 million euros. Instead, with these criteria, it will do so with 4% of the inhabitants out of the remaining 46 million for the most developed regions".

In short , the potential amount for Sardinian municipalities would go from 18 million to just over 2 million euros, "which would run out quickly."

And this money, according to the call for proposals, could among other things finance "renovation interventions on individual buildings or building complexes, efficiency improvements to public lighting systems, installation of intelligent systems for remote control, regulation, management, monitoring and optimisation of energy consumption (smart buildings) and polluting emissions, including through the use of technological mixes".

With the question, Lai concludes, «we ask to know what criteria are applied by Mase for the attribution of regions to the two bands between less developed and more developed considering, among other things, that Sardinia is among the regions considered less developed, on the basis of the macroeconomic parameters established at European level, in the programming of the 2021/2027 cohesion funds».
