The new municipal administration of re-elected mayor Nadia Matta was launched yesterday in Santa Teresa Gallura. Samanta Coppi (social welfare and healthcare), Tiziana Cirotto (public education and equal opportunities), Alessandro Alluttu (tourism and sport), Nello Mura (public works and maintenance), and Domenico Nicolai (environment and ports) are the councilors, selected, it was noted, based on their electoral approval ratings. All other majority councilors have been assigned delegations, starting with Paolo Sardo (urban planning) and Sandro Villani, who has been given responsibility for the Marine Protected Area. The mayor, however, has retained responsibility for the budget, personnel, and private construction.
The administration resulting from the elections is a diverse one, with parts of the opposition, largely from the Democratic Party, grafted onto the framework of the previous administrative mandate, which was essentially center-right. This move hasn't convinced everyone, including opposition councilor Tomaso Visicale, who has emphasized its "unnatural" nature.
"There's a long way to go," Mayor Nadia Matta said after taking the oath and communicating to the city council, convened exceptionally at the Nelson Mandela Theatre, her administration's commitment to covering that road, not by walking, but by running.
From the opposition, MP Dario Giagoni promised respect and dialogue, but also careful oversight of administrative activity. Stefano Pisciottu (former mayor for two consecutive terms), for his part, assured that he would exercise his minority role, availing himself of all the powers granted to him by law.
