The nightmare that lasted about a year and a half is over. For the fishermen of Santa Giusta, there is no longer the risk of losing use of the facilities just meters from the pond: the gear shed, the building where their kitchen is located, the building where the bottarga is dried, and the enormous warehouse that, thanks to the €200,000 funded some time ago by the Region, was supposed to become the area where the fishermen could sort the fish.
The consortium that manages the pond only now owns all the land where the buildings were built: the purchase was formalized before a notary . The total investment: €35,000. These funds ended up in the homes of Sarda Appalti Lavori Costruzioni srl, which on paper had owned the land for 14 years. The consortium discovered that the land containing all the buildings used by the village's fishermen for over 80 years had been purchased by Sarda Appalti in 2011, when renovations to the fishpond were underway, due in March 2024.
The Union of Fenici Municipalities, which had received funding for the renovation from the Region, had received a document in which the company requested an immediate halt to the work, claiming land and buildings totaling 3,864 square meters of both covered and uncovered space. The work, however, was not halted, but the Consortium was forced to take legal action, which was concluded a few days ago. Attorney Raffaele Miscali handled the matter.
"After eight months of negotiations, our proposal was accepted," explains Emanuele Cossu, president of the Fishing Consortium, "to purchase the fishery for €35,000. The Consortium spent a total of approximately €50,000, including all expenses. Now we can say we own the fishery. But more importantly, we can apply for funding to carry out all the necessary work on our fishery."
