Two pellets lodged in her body. One in her abdomen, the other in her neck. Sole, a cat just over a year old, was struck yesterday morning by two shots fired from an air rifle. An act of gratuitous violence that demonstrates, once again, how ruthless human cruelty can be.
Sole was found injured in Santa Giusta, lying motionless on the windowsill of her home . "Around 10:30 in the morning, I noticed the cat curled up on the windowsill, bleeding from her nose. Initially, we thought she'd been run over or beaten," says Stefano, the owner.
The visit to the vet revealed an even more serious situation. "The X-ray revealed that Sole had been hit by two pellets. The one in her neck caused a blood flow." The cat never left the garden. "As soon as we called her, she was there within seconds, also because she was nursing," she adds.
And it's precisely this detail that makes the story even more painful. A few months ago, Sole had given birth to four kittens. Yesterday morning, one of them disappeared. "It's unlikely to be a coincidence."
Then comes the hardest part to explain to a nine-year-old. "The worst part was explaining to my nine-year-old daughter: the cat is hers." Luckily, Sole is improving and her condition is significantly improving.
But those two pellets remain, a defenseless animal hit close to home and a wound that goes beyond that caused by the bullets.
