For this reason, Adiconsum Sardegna has decided to take the manager of the B&B “Il Melangolo” in Sant'Antioco to court .

The case was first reported in July. A couple from Asti had booked a stay from June 23rd to July 1st, costing €609. But on June 22nd, the day before their departure, the woman—an oncology patient—was urgently admitted to the Asti hospital for acute vestibular dysfunction. Discharged on June 26th, doctors scheduled a follow-up appointment for June 30th. Therefore, it was impossible to reach the facility during those days.

The husband contacted the B&B to explain the situation and request a refund, even a partial one, but the B&B refused. When the story hit the headlines, the manager told the press that he would refund the amount for "humane reasons" and "out of sensitivity towards the woman and her serious illness."

To date, however, no refund has been received. "They're not keeping their promises, a complete reversal of what they declared a month ago," says Giorgio Vargiu, president of Adiconsum Sardegna . "As consumers, we feel cheated, and we believe the public and the press, too, had picked up and reported those statements. Now, unless the business owner immediately refunds the amount owed, a court case will be inevitable to obtain reimbursement for the amount paid by the couple from Asti. In that case, we will also seek an order against the facility manager to reimburse the legal costs incurred by the two consumers."
