Sant'Antioco pays homage to Silvio Olla, the Antiochian marshal of the Sassari Brigade who 21 years ago, on November 12, 2003, was killed along with 18 other Italians in the Nassiriya massacre. This afternoon, honors were paid in front of his star-shaped tomb at the entrance to the city cemetery, with the participation of Mayor Ignazio Locci, the commander of the Sardinian Army Military Command, General Stefano Scanu, the Teulada armored regiment and a delegation representing the Sassari Brigade.

His father Ruggero and his sister Rossella were present. “For our community, this is not a given. The memory of Silvio is always alive and on November 12th of every year we relive that pain,” said Mayor Ignazio Locci. “In his honor and memory, our community joins the great family of the Italian army that does so much for world peace. The Olla family has donated a son to the nation, giving every Italian the memory of the values of our flag and our army.”

Also attending the ceremony were administrators Pasquale Renna and Rosalba Cossu and the city's veterans' associations.
