Emergency, Sunday afternoon, on board a cruise ship in transit 20 miles south of Sant'Antioco.

A 49-year-old Indian citizen on board the vessel - which set sail from Palma de Mallorca and headed to Palermo - suffered a stroke and therefore needed emergency transport to hospital .

The commander then gave the alarm to the Port Authority of Cagliari, which activated the rescue operation. The operation, however, proved to be very complex from the beginning given the critical nature of the man's condition.

The Operational Section of the Coast Guard of Cagliari, having taken note of the indications of the Italian Radio Medical Center and assessed the position of the ship and the weather and sea conditions, has thus arranged the use of an AW139 Nemo 11-15 helicopter, which took off from Decimomannu with the support on board 118 healthcare personnel.

The helicopter then reached the ship and the staff first stabilized and then took the patient on board via winch.

After about 20 minutes the helicopter reached the Brotzu hospital in Cagliari and entrusted the patient to the doctors for the necessary treatment.
