The town of San Vito is mourning the passing of Luigi (Gigi) Pilia, president of the football team and a constant volunteer on committees, at festivals, and wherever else there was a need to lend a hand. He passed away suddenly due to illness two days before the festival organized by the football club, the Fisherman's Festival (scheduled for August 8th).

"It's another sad day for San Vito Calcio," the club wrote in a statement. "Our president has passed away. For years, he was our guide and a point of reference for managers and members. He loved our children, with whom he had a paternal relationship and was always ready to meet their every need. In this very sad moment, the entire club extends its deepest condolences to Agnese, Mirko, and Damiano."

The Santa Maria Committee remembers him as "a friend who always believed in the value of unity, collaboration, and mutual aid." And then, "there are people who don't need grand words to leave a mark. They do it with their actions, their presence, and their heart. Gigi Pilia was one of them."

The San Vito municipal administration, led by Mayor Marco Antonio Siddi, highlighted Gigi's commitment and enthusiasm, qualities that have enabled the football club to invest in its youth development and the inclusive value of sport in recent years. The final farewell will be tomorrow.
