It is a tender and fascinating story that of the Caretta a caretta turtles on the Lu Impostu beach in San Teodoro. On the occasion of the birth of the last specimens, the Marine Protected Area of Tavolara - Punta Coda Cavallo wanted to spread the story that in recent months has intrigued and kept the inhabitants of San Teodoro and the bathers who frequent the well-known Gallura beach in suspense.

«In July, a specimen of Caretta caretta laid its eggs on a beach within the Marine Protected Area, in Lu Impostu. Thanks to the constant monitoring carried out by the staff of the Tavolara – Punta Coda Cavallo MPA, in close collaboration with the Municipality of San Teodoro, the Coast Guard, the Forestry and Environmental Surveillance Corps and the Barracellare Company, after 58 days, on Monday 25 September, around 3 am, the first 7 hatchlings escaped and made their way to the sea with the complicity of a glittering moon", declares Massimo Canu, president of the organisation's Management Consortium. «Following the arrest of the emergences - continues Canu - two days later, in agreement with the Regional Coordination and the Network, the opening and inspection of the nest was arranged to evaluate the conditions and allow the chicks, possibly found trapped , to take the sea route." «It was there that we were able to take note of the extent of the undertaking accomplished by the mother of Caretta caretta - underlines Canu proudly - having found 78 eggs, 75 of which were hatched and 3 of which were not yet - so much so that their removal was necessary for the development could be monitored in the incubator of the Research and Development Center (CReS) - as well as 3 small turtles, released into the sea at dusk, after temporary shelter in a special thermal box". «I believe it is essential to make this story known because it is an extraordinary example of how the joint commitment of people, institutions and authorities can make a difference in the conservation of marine biodiversity to guarantee the environment - concludes the president of the Marine Area Protected, Massimo Canu - is a reminder intended for us all, to seal the importance of common responsibility, of the shared work to continue to carry out, for the benefit of nature, for future generations".

This is the story of the nest manned by the biologists of the Marine Area since the end of July but in addition to this, between August and September, two other nests were found which had not been known about and it was their little inhabitants who revealed them, who unexpectedly they peeked out from under the sand towards the sea. There are therefore three turtle mothers in total who have chosen to lay their eggs at Lu Impostu this year. The greeting on the Facebook page of the Municipality of San Teodoro to this last specimen, filmed at sunset as it reaches the shore, is a "Bon voyage" that smacks of distant journeys, but also an invitation to return to Lu Impostu, the home of the turtles .
