Carabinieri from the San Sperate station stopped them because they were traveling in a car with foreign license plates. But the two were Sardinians— a twenty-three-year-old from Monastir and a twenty-one-year-old from Ussana —and their night ended with an arrest on charges of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
It all began during a routine nighttime patrol to control the area, when the patrol stopped a Fiat 500 with Polish license plates, which later turned out to be a rental. Having stopped the vehicle, the officers expected to find foreign travelers inside. But the presence of two very nervous local youths immediately set off alarm bells.
The search was then triggered: the two young men were hiding over 48 grams of hashish, a small dose of cocaine, and 485 euros in cash.
The searches were extended to their homes. The house searches led to the discovery and seizure of an additional 15 grams of hashish and 16 grams of marijuana. Not only drugs: during the house searches, the officers also discovered a blank pistol with the usual red cap removed.
