Pedestrian safety is of paramount importance on all streets in the town, but there are numerous critical issues, especially at the end of Via Roma and along the stretch that leads to Via Villacidro on one side and Via Po on the other. The old railway line lacks space to allow pedestrians to cross safely. Hence the commitment of the San Gavino municipal administration to resolve this long-standing problem, as Mayor Stefano Altea, responsible for public works, emphasizes: "This week, work will begin on the pedestrian crossing between Via Roma and Via Po, at the old level crossing. Those who need to cross this stretch of road have always been forced to walk on the inside of the carriageway, posing serious risks. In a few days, however, it will be possible to do so safely with a dedicated walkway outside the carriageway. This project will be extremely useful and important for safety and urban decorum."
And precisely for pedestrian safety , the city administration installed several raised pedestrian crossings months ago on Via Roma near the entrance to the Nostra Signora di Bonaria hospital, on Viale Trieste, and at the entrance to the town on Via Villacidro. On all these streets, residents had reported the high speeds of cars entering the town center from provincial roads or using the straight road, which, however, is not the same as a Formula One racetrack.
The previous administration had already made some pedestrian crossings safe on Via Trento and Via Dante near the primary and middle schools.
