A 31-year-old Tunisian man, an asylum seeker living in a reception center, was arrested by the Carabinieri on charges of domestic abuse. The incident occurred last night in
San Gavino.
According to the military's reconstruction, the intervention was triggered by a call for help to the Operations Center, reporting an ongoing fight. The San Gavino Monreale military responded to the scene, supported by colleagues from the Villacidro Mobile Radio Unit and the Sardara station.
When the patrols arrived, the man, clearly intoxicated, allegedly attacked his live-in wife—also a Tunisian citizen and pregnant—hitting her in the face with his cell phone and then pushing her to the ground.
The woman was rescued and taken to the emergency room for treatment . The 31-year-old was arrested and taken to the police station, then transferred to the Ettore Scalas prison in Uta, where he is now being held by the judicial authorities, who will now evaluate the appropriate measures.
