A huge celebration in San Gavino Monreale and Sardara for Maria Sabiu, who turned 100 on September 19th, surrounded by the love of her daughters, grandchildren, and friends. The sprightly grandmother also received a visit from Mayor Stefano Altea and Deputy Mayor Rachele Carrisi, Giorgio Zucca, Mayor of Sardara (her birthplace), and Antonio Mameli, Councilor for Culture. Maria Sabiu always worked for her family, while her husband, Luigi Porcu, passed away many years ago.

The centenarian has 4 daughters (Annalisa, Sandra, Lucia and Paola), 5 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

"My mother," says her daughter Annalisa, "always went out every morning to buy the Unione Sarda, which she read in the afternoon, and she still takes care of the garden today. In the summer, her house on Via Paderi is the neighborhood meeting place: she's a cheerful woman by nature and makes herself well-liked. She also drinks a glass of wine at lunch and dinner."

Congratulations also came from Mayor Giorgio Zucca: "Maria Sabiu holds her Sardara roots in her heart, even though she now lives in San Gavino Monreale. In her," Mayor Giorgio Zucca remarked, "we recognize the authentic face of a generation that faced life with strength, dignity, and a spirit of sacrifice. Reaching one hundred years of age is a rare gift, a legacy of memory and experience that deserves respect and gratitude. In Sardara, we have several centenarians."
